Job Description:
Head up Mechanical Design department(s) tasked with product design and development of highly customized Semiconductor, Nanotechnology, Solar and Industrial market Capital Process Equipment. Manage staff of Project Managers, Design Engineers and Detailers, determining project roles and responsibilities; and setting design tasks, workload and completion schedules. Set departmental design standards and conduct design reviews of all ongoing jobs.
Control job costs by specifying cost-effective designs, parts and methods, with strong emphasis on minimizing engineering and manufacturing labor costs. Stay abreast of engineering developments and recommends new technologies as appropriate to meeting product and corporate goals. Specify, select and integrate components used in design, and manage vendor selection and evaluation process.
Responsible for Mechanical Design department staffing, mentoring new employees and conducting performance reviews. Employ AutoDesk Inventor to create, review and modify part models and assemblies to job specifications and in-house standards.
Duties to include conceptual design and solid-modeling of complete equipment systems; creation of structural frames and enclosures; specification and selection of appropriate materials; engineering calculations of strength, force, thermal transfer; BOMs and configuration management.
Work with Gas Systems Engineering to realize gas and vacuum system design and layout plumbing panels. Work with Electrical and Control Systems Engineering to specify, design and develop system control methods. Work with Production staff to assist in manufacture of parts, assembly and test of systems. Work with customer personnel during concept, design development and review, source inspection and acceptance. Support Field Service department during system installation and startup, and assist in Customer Support communications. Assist Sales and Marketing in quotations, system inquiries, and demonstrations.
Qualifications:
MSME or similar degree, plus suitable experience in Semiconductor or comparable industry segment. Candidate with exceptional experience may be exempt from degree requirements.
Must have prior design management experience involving custom capital process equipment engineering and manufacturing. Manufacturing knowledge to include CNC Mill, Lathe and sheet-metal tool operations. Should have experience with various semiconductor industry processes such as vacuum systems, resistance furnaces, infrared heating lamps, RF induction heating, loading mechanisms, mass flow controllers, pressure transducers, pumps, cooling systems, wafer handling systems, etc. Experience with rigging and transport of large capital equipment is desirable.
Must be proficient with Inventor 10 or similar 3D solid modeling software. Should have experience with CFD and FEA analysis programs, and various CAM packages. Must be proficient with Windows OS and common office applications, including MRP software.
